Wastewater is treated in relatively small aeration tank partially filled with these moving bed media aerated filters. (“Hair Curlers”), providing a surface where a biofilm can grow. Oxygen is introduced via bubble diffused air also moving around the media.

The media design gives a high surface area which promotes the growth of bacteria and other organisms (biomass) which actively treat the wastewater.
